TMF, the City of Jyväskylä, Vireon, and the Central Finland Mobility Foundation, Announced Plans to Construct a Hydrogen Refueling Station and Pilot Finland's First Fuel Cell Buses

Toyota Mobility Foundation (TMF), the City of Jyväskylä, Finland, and Toyota GAZOO Racing World Rally Team (TGR-WRT) established the “Central Finland Mobility Foundation” (Cefmof)* to realize the mutual goal of achieving carbon neutrality and a sustainable society and are actively moving forward with their vision.
Recently, they announced the following specific initiatives.
*Introducing the newly established Central Finland Mobility Foundation (Cefmof)
- The city of Jyväskylä and Cefmof will cooperate to introduce fuel cell buses (FC buses) as a trial for public transport for the first time in Finland.
- Jyväskylä’s first hydrogen refueling station will be built in the city in cooperation with Vireon (a Norwegian hydrogen fuel servicing company).
Five FC buses will be introduced in Jyväskylä by 2025 and will begin operating as part of the city’s public transportation infrastructure in July of the same year. This initiative will simultaneously evaluate the performance of FC buses in Finland's cold climate and verify the feasibility of sustainable urban transportation.
Furthermore, by establishing a hydrogen refueling station in Jyväskylä, located in central Finland, it is expected the city will serve as a hydrogen refueling hub, creating new business opportunities and employment. This action is also expected to contribute to revitalizing the local economy and facilitating the realization of hydrogen fuel transportation throughout Finland.
