Toyota Mobility Foundation, the City of Jyväskylä, and TOYOTA GAZOO Racing World Rally Team have established Central Finland Mobility Foundation (“Cefmof”) and have been advancing activities aimed at achieving carbon neutrality and realizing a sustainable society.

Cefmof has announced a new Proof of Concept (PoC) project with Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. (Yamaha Motor) to advance the use of hydrogen in marine applications through the Hydrogen Sauna Boat.

Rather than developing a new type of vessel, the project uses the Hydrogen Sauna Boat as a technical test platform to evaluate an integrated hydrogen energy system. Hydrogen fuel cells generate electricity for Yamaha Motor’s HARMO electric boat control systems as well as onboard equipment, while hydrogen is also used for the sauna and grill. Yamaha Motor is contributing its HARMO systems together with technical support for their integration into the vessel. Through this collaboration, the project aims to gain practical experience with hydrogen technologies and assess their potential for future marine applications.

The initiative is a technology demonstration rather than a commercial product development project. The Hydrogen Sauna Boat will make its public debut during Rally Finland in July 2026.
